What you can expect when you work with Gearhaven
Documented process, honest assessment, and technique matched to each piece — not a one-size approach to every job on the bench.
Six things that shape how we work
Dedicated Specialist Team
All work is carried out by trained watchmakers — not generalist technicians. Quartz, lume, and pocket watch jobs are handled by the person best suited to that type of piece.
Written Record for Every Job
We document the condition on arrival, the work carried out, parts used, and the condition at handback. You receive a copy with your piece.
No Work Without Approval
The scope and estimated cost are agreed before anything is started. If we find something unexpected, we stop and discuss it with you before continuing.
Calibrated, Appropriate Tools
We use the right instruments for each type of movement. Antique pocket watch mechanisms are handled differently from modern quartz units — the tools and lubricants reflect that.
Prices Stated Before Work Begins
Service starting prices are published on the site. The final figure is confirmed at intake, after the initial assessment, before any chargeable work proceeds.
Straightforward Communication
We don't use trade language to obscure what's been done. The work summary uses plain terms, and we're available by phone or email if something needs clarification.
What each advantage means in practice
Depth of Experience
The watchmakers at Gearhaven have worked on movements across a wide range of periods and manufacturers. That breadth matters when a piece arrives with an unusual fault or an unfamiliar calibre.
- Quartz movement faults diagnosed before any parts are ordered
- Pocket watch work carried out by someone who specialises in older pieces
- Lume renewal assessed against the original dial before any application
A Process That Doesn't Cut Corners
Every job follows the same sequence: intake assessment, client approval, work, quality check, documentation, handback. No stage is skipped because a job looks straightforward.
- Intake record created before the piece is placed on a bench
- Post-service check before the client is contacted for collection
- Written summary prepared and attached before handback
Client Communication
We contact clients at key stages: when the assessment is complete, if scope changes during the work, and when the piece is ready. You're not left wondering where things stand.
- Reachable by phone and email during workshop hours
- No changes to scope or cost without prior discussion
- Handback arranged at a time that suits the client
Pricing and Value
Our published prices represent real starting points based on standard job complexity. More involved work — older movements, unusual calibres, sourced parts — is costed individually and discussed openly.
- Starting prices published openly on the site
- Final cost confirmed before work begins
- No hidden additions at the collection stage
Outcomes Focused on the Piece
The aim of each job is to leave the piece in a better, more stable condition than when it arrived — not simply to complete the transaction. If a piece would not benefit from a particular intervention, we'll say so before starting.
- Post-service condition documented and provided to the client
- Advice on ongoing care appropriate to the piece type
- Honest assessment when no intervention is the right answer

Documentation as Standard
Most workshops don't provide written records. At Gearhaven, documentation isn't an add-on — every piece receives an intake note and a work summary as a matter of course.
Pocket Watch Focus
Older pocket watches require patience and specific knowledge. We've built up a body of experience with these pieces over more than a decade — mainspring renewal, hinge repair, sourcing obsolete parts when possible.
Lume Reviewed Against the Original
Before any lume refresh, we assess the existing markers and the dial as a whole. The aim is a result that improves legibility without making the watch look like something it isn't.
Central Bangkok Location
Our Ratchadamri workshop is easy to reach from most parts of central Bangkok and walkable from the BTS Ratchadamri station — no need to navigate to a peripheral district.
